Concrete Snap Tie Leaks

Snap Tie Leaks:

How to stop running water coming from a snap tie pocket in a basement wall.

1. Remove the snap tie from the wall, wire brush the surface of the concrete.

2. For holes bigger than an 1/8″ , fill with Waterprlug Hydraulic cement. Allow the Waterplug to set for 30 minutes

3. Brush on a heavy coat of Epoxy Waterproofer over the Waterplug and overlap 1″ all the way around the patch.

The Epoxy Waterproofer can be used without Waterplug if the pocket left by the snap tie is less than 1/8″ in diameter.

This repair is permanent and will prepare your wall to accept further waterproofing coatings.

Save my chimney

Save my chimney

This picture is an example of a neglected chimney which over the years has been allowed to absorb water and the results are the damaged joints and the destruction of the whole chimney.  This chimney will require a professional to set up staging, cut out loose and bad mortar joints and then apply new mortar to the joints.  There are many clear sealers on the market, they all proclaim to be the best, use my product, but when you read the fine print they all work best when applied to a sound surface.  Clear sealers cannot take the place of mortar and sound solid bricks. Clear sealers, the active solids left behind in the pores of the masonry can only work properly when the mortar joints are tuck pointed tightly and the bricks don’t have spalling faces and the roof cap cannot have mortar missing.  The roof flashing must be in good shape or sealing your chimney will only stop some of the water.

How to stop water from a leaking crack in my basement

leaking crack in basement

Traditionally, basement waterproofing always involved excavating the foundation; a costly undertaking indeed.  Today there are a number of ways to fix wet basements from within the basement itself – a much less expensive (and less destructive) proposition.

There are many ways to stop ground water from entering a finished basement through a leaking crack, but none of them are as simple as using our Epoxy Waterproofer.  Just brush it over a crack, allow it to set and you’re done, no chipping  and no patching. Wide cracks can be sealed by mixing clean silica sand into the epoxy to make an epoxy mortar that will stay in place while it cures.  Watch our video to see how simple it is.

De-icing Salts Attacking Concrete Surfaces

sidewalk salt damage

Salt Damage to Concrete & Masonry is Expensive

De-Icings salts such as rock salt, calcium chloride, magnesium chloride, and other salt related products all do damage to concrete surfaces.  The resulting slurry of melted ice and salt is absorbed into the concrete causing spalling and general erosion of the surface. Salt Block WB does not allow the salty slurry created by the de-icing salt from soaking into the concrete and destroying your concrete surface.  A chemical reaction occurs within the pores of the concrete creating an invisible barrier which prevents absorption into the surface.  A treatment of Salt Block will save you hundreds of dollars in future concrete repairs.

What if the damage is already done?

Concrete that has pitted and spalled needs to be repaired using a concrete repair mortar such as Plas-Tex Powder.  All broken and loose concrete needs to be removed prior to patching to ensure the patch gets a strong, permanent bond.  Once all patching has been completed and allowed to cure the surface can now be sealed with Salt Block WB to protect and prevent future damage from de-icing salts.

Klere Treat WB – Ready to Use Masonry Water Repellent

brick sealer Klere-Treat WB

Klere-Treat WB is a masonry water repellent based on a silane and siloxane. Under the influence of atmospheric humidity, it chemically reacts with and bonds to masonry, forming a highly effective poly-siloxane repellent.  It is highly alkaline resistant and designed for use on brick, concrete block, precast concrete, stucco, limestone, fieldstone and many other natural stones.

Kleare-Treat WB provides superior protection against moisture penetration, thereby preventing the deleterious effects of efflorescence. The deep penetrating application retains it’s natural appearance with no surface build up or darkening effects. The masonry remains completely breathable.

Klere-Treat WB can also be applied to parking garages and flat concrete or masonry surfaces to reduce attack from deicing salts.

The advantages of Klere-Treat WB include:

    • Deep Penetration into surfaces
    • Non-film forming
    • Does non contain wax, gum resins, silicas or silicones
    • Unlike many water repellents Klere-Treat WB does not break down due to alkali in masonry.
    • Resists water penetration for 10 years
    • Highly resistant to acid rain
    • Safe water based formula, water cleanup
    • No toxic fumes or vapors
