Basement Waterproofing

Stop basement leaks

Basement Waterproofing – You don’t need an expert

The dreaded leaking basement.  There are a lot of reasons why rainwater can enter into a basement.  One of the most overlooked reason is a crack in the wall or floor or a separation of the concrete floor from the concrete wall.  Also tie holes can allow water to enter into the basement.  You don’t have to be an expert to determine where the water is coming from.  Just follow the path of the water and you can usually pin point the area.

What can I do?

Cracks in the walls or floors can allow a tremendous amount of water to enter into a basement.  Simple repairs can be done to stop this water from entering the basement.  Chargar Corpration has a unique Epoxy that can be brushed applied to these areas.  Epoxy Waterproofer is simple to use and apply.  Two brush coat applications over these cracks will form a waterproof, durable film that is impervious to water.  It will hold back hydro static water pressure.  Epoxy Waterproofer can also be applied to a larger area of the floor or wall to make these areas waterproof. Epoxy Waterproofer does not contain solvents and has very little odor, so it can be used in confined areas.  Epoxy Waterproofer is used by the professionals to waterproof basements .

Basement Waterproofing Made Easy

Basement Waterproofing with Epoxy Waterproofer

Our Epoxy Waterproofer is a basement waterproofing designed for leaking basemant walls and floors. Epoxy Waterproofer is a proven product that is brush or roller applied to the entire basement wall or floor or just to waterproof a leaking crack or a leaking tie hole or a junction between floor and wall.

Because basements are below ground level, they are prone to not only dampness, but also water run-off, which can damage the concrete walls. You may also find yourself facing problems with mold, mildew and a, unpleasant odor.  Epoxy Waterproofer is extremely effective in the basement where dampness and mild instances of water occur. For major issues, first remove the water from outside the home. Take proper steps to keep water away from the foundation which, may include re-routing gutter drains and steering runoff water away from the foundation.

Once cured it forms a 15 mil impervious and well bonded WATERPROOF film. The great part is that it has very little odor and does not contain any solvents. Our customers include waterproofing contractors who waterproof with sheet membrane on the exterior . These contractors warranty their work for 10 years, but if their work ever  leak during the warranty period, they do not excavate the exterior to repair their membrane. They fix the leaks with our Epoxy Waterproofer from the interior. Epoxy Waterproofer has an amazing track record at stopping interior leaks. Watch our video on how to use our Epoxy to waterproof a crack. For more info email answers@chargar.com or call  1-800-922-4623.

How To Clean A Dirty Swimming Pool

One of the biggest mistake that owners of swimming pools do to clean  dirty pools from winter leaves, mold, mildew is to use muriatic acid. The pool doesn’t require an etch to remove the dirt, it really requires a cleaner which can dislodge and loosen the attached dirt from masonry plaster  or from  pool paint without doing damage to the surface. AC-3 Cleaner works great at doing this without burning your smooth finish or burning the pool paint off the surface. AC-3 is a mild cleaner which is non toxic. Pool professionals use AC-3 to clean  existing pools because it cleans and brightens the pool surface. Customers who have used AC-3 are amazed how well it works. They tell us that the plaster looks new and on painted surfaces, the paint looks new. AC-3 works in 3 ways, it contains a mild safe acid, a powerfull detergent, and a safe water soluble solvent. AC-3’s triple action cleaning cannot be found in muriatic acid. For more information on AC-3 call 1-800-922-4623.

Efflorescence Removal From Masonry Surfaces

Clean salt deposits

One of the most stubborn stain to remove off masonry surfaces is efflorescence or commonly called salt deposits. Efflorescence is generally formed when masonry absorbs water and then when it wicks out, it leaves behind the soluble salts which are present in alkaline masonry surfaces. Sometimes this salt washes off easily with the next rain storm and other times it doesn’t wash off and starts to change from a soluble salt to an insoluble salt.

Once efflorescence starts to become insoluble it becomes more and more difficult to remove.  Many will run down to the hardware store and purchase Muriatic acid which can work sometimes but Muriatic Acid has many drawbacks. Muriatic Acid is highly dangerous to work with, and it burns the finish from the masonry surface, corrodes metal framed windows, etches glass. Muriatic acid works great for etching concrete but it can destroy the finish from common bricks, colored concrete block, limestone, bluestone and many other types of masonry surfaces. Once the color is bleached out it will never match the surrounding surfaces.

The Chargar Corportation manufactures a cleaner called AC-3. AC-3 does not contain any Muriatic Acid or Hydrochloric Acid which the chemical  name for Muriatic Acid. AC-3 is a safe and gentle cleaner which when used properly can remove efflorescence from masonry without destroying the natural appearance of the surface. AC-3 does not emit toxic vapors, or corrode metal surfaces or etch glass. Ac-3 is biodegradable and will remove efflorescence without the hazards associated with Muriatic Acid. How To Stop Radon Gas in Basement Foundation Walls

PRODUCTION:

Radon is a colorless, odorless, radioactive gas. It forms naturally from the decay of radioactive elements, such as uranium, which are found in different amounts in soil and rock throughout the world. Gases in the soil and rock can move into the air and into underground water and surface water.stop radon gas

Ways radon gas enters home

The image above shows examples of where radon gas can enter into a home. Cracks in the floors or walls are prime areas that gas enters from.

The Chargar Epoxy Waterproofer has been used by major universities to coat walls and floors which have cracks in the masonry surface. The epoxy is applied with a brush in a 15 mil film.  As a result, the gas can no longer permeate into the basement. Epoxy Waterproofer is not a breathable coating and will not allow radon gas to pass through it or moisture.  Once cured the epoxy can be left as is, it can be painted or hidden with the installation of flooring or carpet.  For more information email answers@chargar.com or call 1-800-922-463

Leaking Basements From Spring Thaw Runoff

Its that time of the year when the snow starts to melt and rather than getting snow we start to get rain. The ground takes longer to thaw and every rain storm brings on more trouble to those who have cracks in their basements. When rain water and snow melt cannot be absorbed by the ground because it is still frozen water can enter foundation cracks and leak into homes. A good inspection of the concrete walls and floors can save you a lot of problems down the road. Any new cracks should be noted and the proper repair techniques in repairing these new cracks should be planned in advance. Waiting to repair a crack to see if it leaks can lead to further damage to the concrete and to the basement contents. The Chargar Corporation manufactures a unique crack repair waterproofer which does not required chipping, patching, or grouting. The Chargar Epoxy Waterproofer is a simple brush applied heavy bodied Epoxy which waterproofs fine hairline cracks without the use of any masonry tools. Chargars Epoxy Waterproofer can be simply brushed over the crack with a slight overlap on to the concrete sides. Once the Epoxy Waterproofer cures, it will form an impervious 15 + mil buildup that is resistant to hydrostatic water pressure. How to Repair Chatahoochie Stone Decks

stone deck The proper repair and maintenance of pebble stone decks is critical if you are planning on keeping your deck for a long time. Neglecting these decks is a sure path to future failure and disastrous results. Many of the calls that we take in our technical services department concerning stone decks are always at the point where the stones are loose and popping off. A good preventative program and not to loose stones is to seal the deck every 2 years. A good maintenance schedule is:

1. Wash the deck with 1 part of Fabulene biodegradable detergent cleaner and 1 part of bleach and 2 parts of hot water.

2. Use a spray bottle or pump sprayer to wet out the surface. Allow this mixture to saturate the surface for 5-10 minutes.

3. Rinse the detergent, bleach solution off the stones with a garden hose. Using a powerwasher can loosen stones, so don’t even try it.  For stubborn stains use a stiff broom to scrub stained surfaces and rinse with a garden hose.

4. Allow the stone deck to completely dry, generally 24- 48 hours depending on the air temperature and humidity.

5. If there are no repairs to be made now you are ready to seal the deck. Here is the tricky part. What do I seal the deck with? From experience, we have found that our 100% Epoxy Seal MV is the best, and the reason is that this product will bond the stones back down to the subsurface and to each other. Acrylic sealers don’t have the adhesive quality as 100% epoxies. Acrylic sealers make the surface shiny but offer no adhesion to the stones.

6. Solvent modified Epoxies also offer adhesion and do also hold the stones in place but these products don’t last as long as a 100% solids Epoxy. For more info call 1-800-922-4623 or go to www.chargar.com See our other post on how to repair a damaged stone deck. Written by: Giulio Fraenza
